The\u00a0novel cultural features that appear at Knossos (Crete) in this period have forerunners in the Mainland. In\u00a0Cretan context, the Linear B writing system, the funerary architecture and burial practices of the\u00a0Mainland style are interpreted as evidence of an actual \u2018\u2018Mycenaean\u2019\u2019 long-term settlement and political\u00a0domination of Knossos. Human skeletal material from tombs that are associated with non-locals from\u00a0the Mainland based upon the material culture is analysed to measure 87Sr\/86Sr. The results of the analysis\u00a0show that all the examined individuals from the Knossos tombs were born locally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2008 Elsevier Ltd.
