This paper seeks to define museum communication as a useful\u00a0concept and process by applying storytelling as a way of\u00a0identifying museums\u2019 interpretation, relevance and meaningmaking\u00a0focus. Although museums are very familiar with these\u00a0terms, their impact on how museums communicate has rarely\u00a0been defined.<\/p>\n

The paper offers a theoretical definition of museum\u00a0communication and seeks to implement this in museum practice\u00a0through the concept of storytelling and the way it influences\u00a0internal and external museum communication. Defining a clear\u00a0museum communication requires defining individual practices and\u00a0approaches at museums as well. For the individual museum this\u00a0can be approached by stating a clear museum communication\u00a0definition but more importantly through empirical elements of\u00a0storytelling. How museums define their communication and form\u00a0narratives will impact both internal and external practices.<\/p>\n
